We are all familiar with the most popular computer video games consoles currently available in the stores. We make comparisons between the three systems and we only think in terms of the graphics capability but we should look at how they are operated using the games controllers provided in the budle you buy.

You probably don’t think much about the importance of the controllers you use but the manufacturers spend a lot of time on design and we usually just use them without thinking. The original Xbox was released in 2001 and the controller that came as part of the bundle supplied is known as the duke controller.

Unfortunately for Microsoft customers found the controller supplied was just too big so they didn’t enjoy playing the Xbox so much. Realizing the problem they released the Controller S a model that is very similar to the one now used in the Xbox 360.

The controller they supply now is probably the most comfortable and one which you are happy to play with. Meanwhile the controller for the Playstation while it may look a little different is not as different as it first seems to be.

It is not totally disimilar from the familiar one we had with the PS2 with a couple of internal changes. When it first came out there was another controller supplied appeared very different but it’s altered layout wasn’t a great success and soon disappeared.

The talk is that people just didn’t like it so much as the one we had been using for years on the PS2. That may have been a good decision though there will be many sleepless nights getting ready for the replacement system.

The current controls are ok to use but a new system will mean people expect high standards when they come out with new ideas. Businesses are struggling right now so it may be a while before gamers get what they want.

Finally we look at the Wii games systems from Nintendo which changed the market. The Wiimote controller you get with the Wii bundle was so different it was hard to make a comparison with everything you thought you knew about games controls.

Nintendo’s wiimote is such a change that it has changed the type of people who like to play games thanks to the way of controlling games you are playing. They are more advanced than all the other games console improvements in the last two decades.

It is a quite superb example of technology being used to add to your enjoyment and I feel sure this is the future direction for computer games. Long term gamers dismissed the Wii games console because of the lack of powerful graphics computer chips but they ignored this game changing controller.

Gamers everywhere will be looking forward to anything different in the next round of new games console releases and what their gaming controllers will be like. It seems likely they will be who knows what new features they might offer us and they could be completely different to what we expect.
